Let the Dominoes fall

The First Domino Was Small

Big changes rarely begin with big moments. More often, they begin quietly, with a decision, a conversation, a new habit, a boundary, an apology, a first step or the courage to finally say, This has to change.

That is the idea behind Let the Dominoes Fall.

Life is a connected sequence. Our purpose influences our choices. Our values shape the way we make them. Our priorities determine where our time goes. Our relationships affect our direction, our habits create momentum, and even the smallest decisions can eventually touch parts of our lives we never expected.

We spend a great deal of time trying to arrange everything perfectly. We want certainty before we act. We want to know the career will work, the relationship will last, the business will succeed and the decision will lead exactly where we hope.

But life does not work that way.

The goal is not perfection. It is alignment.

We need to put the right things in the right places: purpose, values, priorities, relationships and choices. We need to recognise which dominoes belong to us and stop trying to control those that belong to somebody else. We need to accept that some pieces cannot be moved, that some sequences will collapse and that starting again does not mean starting from nothing.

Most importantly, we need to understand that a longer row does not necessarily mean a better life. There comes a time when we must recognise what is enough, appreciate what we have already built and stop endlessly preparing for a life we are supposed to be living.

Because eventually preparation has done its work.

There comes a moment when we have to trust the pieces we have carefully placed, accept that we cannot control everything that follows and have the courage to push.

And the first push does not have to be dramatic.

Perhaps your first domino is making the phone call. Saving the first R100. Walking for twenty minutes. Having the conversation you have been avoiding. Applying for the position. Setting a boundary. Asking for help. Beginning the manuscript. Saying yes. Saying no. Or finally letting go of something that no longer belongs in your life.

You do not need to have the entire sequence figured out.

You only need to ask:

What is my first domino?

Set it carefully. Give it direction. And when the time is right, have the courage to push.

Then let the dominoes fall.

Big changes often begin with very small decisions.

The first domino was small. Yours may be too.
